McKenzie Drift Boat Experience with Bert de Klerk April 27-29, 2018
The McKenzie Driftboat Experience April 27-29, 2018
McKenzie drift boats are specialized to run white water river rapids. They were invented and developed on the McKenzie River in Oregon in the early to mid-20th century. Most have a wide flat bottom with little draft. McKenzie River dories are mainly used by river guides and recreational boaters alike who favor a very responsive boat to negotiate technical water.
Day 1 Arrival at the McKenzie River Inn
Guests/students are met by McKenzie River Inn staff at the Resort. Guests will be checked in and escorted to their cabins. An evening orientation meeting will be held in the lodge, and trip itineraries will be distributed. Welcome dinner served.
Day 2 McKenzie Wooden Boat Show. We start the morning course after breakfast with a short introduction to the McKenzie wooden driftboat and attend the wooden boat show. Here we have a chance to listen to and interact with experts and meet with boat builders, historians and living legends alike. This is where it all began, on the McKenzie River. Many types of boats and models are present and the talk with owners, guides and fly fisherman will enhance the experience.
At dinner, we gather at the Lodge as we indulge in exquisite dishes. If weather permits, we enjoy an outdoor fire pit conversation next to the McKenzie River.
Day 3 Fly-fishing from a Mckenzie Drift boat.
After breakfast we gear up and drive to one of the boat launches. After a short 'put in talk' and preparation of rod reel and tackle, we start our adventure and take you out on a top notch, world class fly-fishing river. We stop for lunch mid day and fish the afternoon until we take out at the boat landing.
You can change into your casual clothing when back at your cabin and enjoy another dinner prepared by our Chef De Cuisine. After dinner we socialize either outside or in the dining room to go over the days events.
Day 4 Departure
During breakfast we evaluate your four day experience with instructors and staff before everyone pack up their belongings from the cabins and goes their way.
